Been awhile

So I haven’t been playing any MMO’s lately, and MMO’s were what this blog was going to focus on, so of course it’s dead. Instead I’ve gotten into League of Legends, more on that over at AVideoGameLife.com.

It’s hard to believe its been 6 months since I’ve posted here, and just as long since I’ve played Guild Wars 2, but that’s just the way it is. I can’t see myself going back to GW2 or WoW either. Neither game interests me anymore.

Until next time, seeya.

World of Warcraft’s 8 year anniversary

Blizzard has posted a great cinematic look back at the last 8 years of World of Warcraft and I figured I’d share it, even though I’ve sort of fallen apart from WoW lately. I haven’t hit 90, I just got bored and sidetracked by all the great Xbox games that were recently released (Dishonored, Halo 4, Black Ops II…). Anyway, enjoy!

World of Warcraft Battle Chest: $5 this week only!

You can get World of Warcraft, The Burning Crusade and Wrath of The Lich King for only $5 in the Battle.net store for only $5 this week only! That’s an incredible deal that is a great way to get into World of Warcraft. You’ll be able to play through WoW Vanilla and two great, fun filled expansions as you level 1-80 for only $5 (plus a subscription fee of course). Highly recommend purchasing this now before it reverts to $20 next week.

The best World of Warcraft podcast: The Instance

I’ve listened to Scott Johnson’s The Instance for quite a long time and it’s one of the very few podcasts I find myself counting down the days to listen to every week. The show is informative, entertaining and sometimes downright hilarious. Casual and hardcore players alike can benefit from listening to The Instance. The hosts are all very knowledgable and dedicated WoW players and each brings a unique perspective on the game to the table on a weekly basis. In addition, all of the hosts have very pleasant radio voices (if that makes any sense) so that it’s even harder to stop listening to a show once you start.

If you haven’t listened to an episode of The Instance, I recommend you give it a shot. You won’t regret it. Check it out at TheInstance.net today!

Guild Wars 2, level 7-11

I’ve been enjoying Guild Wars 2 more and more lately, and I thought I’d share my thoughts as I leveled my fire elementalist from approximately 7-11 tonight.

One thing that continues to impress me is Guild Wars 2′s superb presentation and style. The loading screens are beautiful, as you can see above, and they display your progress in an area at the bottom so with a quick glance you know what you have yet to accomplish or discover.

The map is beautiful as well. It will show more or less detail depending on how far zoomed in or out you are, and it works very fluidly and is easy to navigate. Speaking of navigation, Guild Wars 2 utilizes a waypoint fast travel system which is incredibly convenient. Using the waypoint systems costs a small amount of money, and you’d think overusing it would take you out of the game, but in reality it doesn’t. It’s very fluid and quick, and what’s more most of the time you’ll find yourself in the middle of some action on the other end.

Rather than a traditional questing system, Guild Wars 2 creates a living, breathing, changing world through it’s dynamic events system. Things are constantly happening all around you and you can jump in to help as you please. You’re never obligated to do anything. You might come across a group of players taking down a vicious troll and notice a player has fallen in battle. You can revive this player (and earn some XP) and move along your way, or you could revive them and aid in the battle. You could even do nothing at all if you so choose. If you do participate in an event you get rewarded based on your level of involvement. Do just a little damage and you’ll get a bronze medal upon completion of the event. Do a lot of damage, or help in other ways toward achieving the objective and you’ll earn a gold medal with increased reward. The event system brings players together and makes it fun to work together toward a world objective.

My character’s story quests are quite interesting and quite the departure from your typical MMO quest line. So far I’ve found myself gathering evidence against a traitor at a party and using that evidence against the perpetrator at a trial. The game doesn’t have me gathering this and that in between bits of story. I’m out there participating in a living, breathing world when I’m not working on my individual story. There’s a feeling of actually contributing to a common goal in Guild Wars 2 that isn’t really present in other games.

So far the entire experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait to dig further into the game. I’ll leave you with a few more pictures of Arthasvale’s experiences so far.

Welcome to Lootit.net!

Hey, I just wanted to welcome you to my new blog, Loot-it! I have been blogging at AVideoGameLife.com for awhile now and figured it’s time to branch out. A Video Game Life is an all purpose blog that covers gaming, music, movies, technology and much more, whereas Loot-it! will focus more on gaming, and more specifically on the two MMORPG’s I play, World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2.

I’ve played World of Warcraft for about four years now, mostly as a casual player. There are times in which I get more sucked into the game, and other times I sort of get away from playing it on a regular basis. I have a level 86 human warrior which is my main character, and then I have a few minor characters, all under level 20 that I fool around on every now and then (I have a 80 Death Knight, but he was automatically upgraded to 80 through a Scroll of Resurrection and I barely play him, so I tend not to count him).

I’m new to Guild Wars entirely. I decided to purchase Guild Wars 2 because I’m a new Mac convert, and I was excited to see ArenaNet release a Mac version of the game so quickly. I figured I’d help represent the Mac gaming community and support a company that has recognized Mac gamers. I play a human elementalist and so far it’s been a lot of fun (currently level 9). I think Guild Wars 2 will be a nice casual alternative to WoW, and also a fun and unique experience.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my new blog. I think the background image and text are sort of rough right now so I’m sure that’ll be changing in the near future. Sorry it’s hard to read right now. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I wish I could make this text box more opaque, but I haven’t figured out if I can do that yet.
